About Chris

Chris Heartz has been involved in the textile industry and dog breeding for more than 30 years. With Heartfelt, Chris is able to combine her two passions, creating these unique pieces.

Needlefelting is a form of sculpture using wool fibers as a medium. With special felting needles the wool is manipulated into felt, much like working in clay. The result is a one-of-a-kind soft sculpture.

Chris’ work can be found online and at select shows across Canada and the US .

What is needlefelting?

Felting is an ancient process of making wool fibers, (dog, lama, sheep) mat together. Using water and soap, ancient nomads created their homes, clothes and beds by felting fibers together to create a dense mat.

Today felting, both wet and dry, have become an art form. With the use of a special felting needle wool fibers can be manipulated into beautiful art pieces.

This is a very instinctive, free form medium but not unlike working in clay. Each piece is created from the inside out, most have wire armature or “skeleton”. Each piece seems to take on it's own personality. The result is a one-of-a-kind soft sculpture.

Pricing

Most of my work is on a commission basis. While the Pomeranian breed is where I started, I enjoy the challenge of researching other breeds and creating pieces for clients.

I cannot guarantee a likeness but tend to do more interpretive work based on the photograph.

Most of the pieces I do are about 6” square, depending on the subject.

Prices start at $80.00. A $50.00 deposit is required before I begin a new commission.
